OUR PERSPECTIVE 1) When a child’s self-esteem is high and the rules are direct, clear and reasonable, misbehavior is minimal. 2) When a child feels loved and valued as a person, he will love and value others. 3) Children respond positively to those who love and approve of them. 4) A child feels valued when they are given important and relevant tasks to perform. 5) A child feels valued when someone really listens to what he/she has to say. 6) It is our opinion that a child learns correct behavior by watching the adults in his/her life. These adults must encourage and reinforce the child’s appropriate behavior in positive ways. In addition, they must have a clear and consistent set of rules to follow and know that acting outside these rules in not allowed. 7) We consider ourselves disciplinarians. Our goal is to model and teach appropriate behavior.
